Steel Rule Die Making

Die cutting is a finishing process that uses a special letterpress
and a steel rule die to cut irregular shapes into paper.

How does it work?
In a nutshell, the letterpress is fitted with a steel die, which is bent into a specific shape and embedded in wood before it's affixed to the press. The die is then pressed into the paper, creating the desired shape.

At MH/CP, we have eight die cutting presses that can handle sheets ranging in size from 2 x 3" to 44 x 66". These presses can cut paper, corrugated, chipboard, foam board, and plastics up to 1/8" thick. Not only that, our 12 other presses of various sizes and styles can also be used for die cutting.Typical die cut products include pocket folders, door hangers, kiss cut labels, folding cartons, and a wide range of retail point-of-purchase display materials.

Computer Aided Design

MH/CP has an advanced CAD (Computer Aided Design) system for designing and laying out steel rule dies. Just furnish us with a sketch and the dimensions, or an electronic file of what you are looking for.

We can provide a sample and an eps file of the die line. We also use the file to create the die. Your job is simplified, accurate, automated - and speedier to produce.

CD/DVD Packaging & Pocket Folders

Two of our die cutting specialties are CD or DVD Packaging and Pocket Folders. You have your choice among several standard dies for these products - plus, we can make customized dies for you, too.

We have two great articles to help keep your die cutting projects trouble-free. Check out Just Say "No" to Cracks and Die Cutting Do's and Don'ts.
