Embossing

Ready to move into a new dimension? Consider embossing.

This finishing process creates raised images on the surface of a printed sheet. We can also do the opposite, called a deboss, which creates an image below the paper's surface.

This specialty requires skill in die making plus special presses. We have both.

MH/CP has an extremely talented die maker on staff. Come on by for a plant tour and see how we create a die!.

With our 12 heated stamping and embossing presses, we can create a variety of embossed and debossed images. Sheet sizes range from 2 x 3" to 28 x 40".

Multiple Kinds of Embossing

There are many types of embossing. The most common is the Single-level emboss. This raises the whole image to one level above the paper.

A multi-level emboss raises your image to distinct multiple levels - usually two to four. For example, you may want to have an image of a corporate logo inside a box. The logo can be at one level; the surrounding box, another. What a gorgeous effect!

Sculptured (or modeled) embosses are another variation. These are more complicated and always require a hand-crafted die. Picture a pocket folder or annual report cover with an sculpted image of a building…or a person's face…or a city. The results are always dramatic - and memorable.

There are also different types of edges for an embossing die, like rounded, beveled, and straight.

Have an idea for your next design project that will be enhanced by embossing? Give us a call, and we'll show you some MH/CP samples that will get your creative juices flowing.

We have two fantastic articles to help with your embossing adventures. Check out Hassle-Free Stamping & Embossing and Embossing Depth.

Always have a conversation with your finisher about an upcoming embossing project before you start. Paper selection is critical. We can set you straight (or beveled!).
