Gone are the days when engraving took weeks and weeks. We can create your die in a day or two, and deliver finished product soon after that to accommodate your delivery requirements.

Fast Facts about Engraving

• Also called "intaglio" printing, engraving dates back to the 16th century.

• It's easy to spot engraving - the image is raised above the surface of the paper.

• Engraving inks are opaque, not transparent like offset inks. This gives you incredible flexibility: You can engrave light colors on dark backgrounds.

• There's zero variation in color throughout the run.

• Engraving is laser compatible.

Before You Begin

Whether you're a printer or designer, talk to us about your upcoming engraving job. We'll help make sure you choose the right paper. We can provide samples of the ink on the actual paper you choose, using a die already on press. There's no charge for this service. (If you require a press proof, however, there will be an extra fee.)

Since engraving is often combined with other processes, like foil stamping, offset printing, and embossing, it's important to bring us in on the project early. We'll go over the proper sequencing of these separate processes.

Some Limitations

Keep these in mind before you decide to engrave:

• Engraving doesn't cover large areas. The maximum plate size is 5" x 9" unless a larger press is used. If your image exceeds this, multiple dies will be made.

• Colors aren't built out of CMYK. Each color (any one you choose!) is applied separately.

• Engraving isn't recommended for a two-sided job.
